A training for South-Sudan in Uganda

27 July 2017

Usratuna is a rehabilitation center located in Juba, South-Sudan. Even during these difficult times of conflict and unstability, Usratuna keeps fighting for the quality of life of children with an impairment. Next to general medical care, they also offer physiotherapy; speech therapy and other social services. Additionally, they manufacture prostheses and assist the child during its rehabilitation process. One of their goals, is that a child with an impairment should be able to school, like and together with all other children. Therefore, they are fierce advocates of inclusive education.

A lot of their patients are children with Spina Bifida and Hydrocephaly. To provide adequate care for our target group, Child-Help supported a team from Usratuna to attend a specialized training in our specialized partner-hospital: Cure Children’s Hospital in Mbale, Uganda. Through classroom teaching but also through real-time exposure, the team from South-Sudan learned how to diagnose and treat Spina Bifida and Hydrocephaly. The training also included all information on follow-up treatment. This knowledge can be further circulated amongst their colleagues in South-Sudan. In this way, children with Spina Bifida and Hydrocephaly can receive the care they deserve.

A thousand times THANK YOU to our partner Cure to provide this training for the Usratuna team from South-Sudan.
